Do you know someone — perhaps yourself — who is wishy-washy about the entire God thing? Maybe they’re completely atheistic, or just think that God is someone you only visit on Christmas and Easter, like a favorite relative. Do what you can to convince that person to begin their faith journey now.
In today’s verse, Saul of Tarsus is giving his testimony after his conversion on the road to Damascus. After being blinded, he was visited by Ananias, who told him that God had chosen him to “be his witness”. Ananias said:
'What are you waiting for? Get up and be baptized. Have your sins washed away by calling on the name of the Lord.’ '
Acts of the Apostles 22:16
There is a sense of urgency in what Ananias says to the future apostle Paul. He’s telling him that his days of persecuting the followers of Christ were over, that it is now time to receive God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ, and get on to the work God wants him to do — sharing the Good News with as many people as possible.
Ask that friend or yourself — what are you waiting for? Life is uncertain; we never know from one minute to the next if we’ll be here. Assurance of eternal life is nothing to take lightly!
