It seems like most of our lives are centered around trying to be happy…and not succeeding. The first words in Psalms give you the answer on how to have the joyful life we all desire:
“Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers.”
Psalms 1:1
The Psalms and Proverbs are my favorite Old Testament books. They’re full of great advice, they’re poetic, and — most important — they offer timeless advice. It’s thought that the majority of the Psalms were written between 1010 and 930 BC; so about three thousand years ago.
I’m not going to give you a full life history, but let’s just say that I used to follow the advice of the wicked and joined in with mockers…and I was miserable. If I had one piece of advice to give to the teenaged me, it would be Psalm 1:1.
What Biblical advice would YOU give your teenage self? Comment!
