Looking at my life, I have plenty of evidence that prayer is the most powerful tool in the Universe. Even when I thought I was a non-believer, I often implored God to help me when I was in my most desperate hours. Sometimes I didn’t feel that He answered my prayers the way I wanted Him to, but in retrospect the response from Him was exactly what I needed.
Today’s Bible verse comes from Jesus, talking to His disciples after they expressed amazement that the fig tree he had cursed for not having any fruit had withered and died.
“You can pray for anything, and if you have faith, you will receive it.”
Matthew 21:22
This is not a simple proposition. You must pray, but your faith must be deep and genuine as well. One commentary I read (I believe it was written by Heinrich August Wilhelm Meyer) said “We can only believe for a thing when we are in such union with God that his thought and purpose can freely flow into us, suggesting what we should pray for, and leading us to that point in which there is a perfect sympathy and understanding between us and the divine mind. Faith is always the product of such a frame as this.”
In other words, when you and God are of one mind, He’ll suggest what you should pray for and then makes it happen!
Keep praying!
