There are many reasons for us to pray to God. Whether we want to confess our sins to Him, honor Him with our praise, ask Him for help with something, or thank Him for his providence and protection, He is always there to listen…and to speak to us if we listen to Him.
He also heals, not just in the emotional and spiritual sense, but in physical terms as well. Any lingering doubt I had about a loving God was totally erased in 2019 when I went up for healing prayer at our church. Up to that point, I had experienced a lot of pain in my shoulders and neck, and my hands would become numb if I turned my head a certain way. It was all due to cervical stenosis, essentially a pinched nerve in my neck.
Before that day in 2019, I fully expected that I would have to undergo surgery to relieve the pressure on the nerve. I never anticipated that two-and-a-half years later I’d still be pain free.
We shouldn’t doubt the healing power of prayer. I’ve now heard testimony from so many people who have been healed through God’s goodness. The New Testament has numerous examples of both Jesus and his disciples miraculously healing people, and that is still going on today.
'Are any of you sick? You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord. Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well. And if you have committed any sins, you will be forgiven. '
