People with understanding control their anger
Proverbs 14:29 Thank You God for Your Grace, because I’m a fool
“People with understanding control their anger; a hot temper shows great foolishness.”
Proverbs 14:29 NLT
Let me begin today’s devotional with an appeal to God.
Lord, I really, really tried to keep my mouth shut today. I had been looking at social media (not a good idea) and getting quite angry about some political stories I was reading. A couple was sitting near us in a lounge here on the cruise ship chatting with Barb and I was minding my own business… until I heard them make some political comments 180° diametrically opposed to my beliefs.
Despite being on my best behavior most of the time, I verbally lashed out at these folks when I should have just kept my mouth shut. Fortunately my barrage seemed to leave them speechless, as they didn’t really try to continue arguing. But — and Thank You Holy Spirit — I felt bad about what I did and said. I should have controlled my anger; instead, my hot temper displayed foolishness.
Fortunately, God gives us these type of situations as learning experiences. He knows that we’re going to slip up; we’re humans. We get the opportunity to confess our sins to Him and ask for forgiveness in the name of Jesus Christ. The most important thing is to take advantage of the learning experience and not let our hot tempers get the best of us in the future.
Heaven On Wheels Daily Prayer:
Lord, please help me each day to be patient and have great understanding so that I don’t display a quick temper and display my foolishness. I long to reflect you in all ways, and pray that Your understanding governs my future behavior. Let restraint build in my heart so I can reflect a God-like patience to my fellow human beings. Please shape me as a person so I can reach and understand those who need You! AMEN.
