I have to admit that I’m not a very patient person. Heaven On Wheels has been publishing in one form or another for over eight months, and I find it hard to keep from getting discouraged about how relatively few readers we have. Yet I take heart with Scripture verses like this one from Ecclesiastes:
“Finishing is better than starting. Patience is better than pride.”
Ecclesiastes 7:8 NLT
Today’s world is so focused on instant gratification and getting things now that it’s no wonder people are so stressed out and angry! During the past few years of supply chain issues and staffing shortages, many people are finding that their “gotta have it now” mentality just isn’t working.
I’m very guilty of being impatient! I want thousands of people to read God’s Word each and every day, as I was called to do this. It’s especially frustrating when I see that a “Lutheran minister” from Colorado who makes a mockery of Christianity has thousand of readers who flock to her profanity-laced online diatribes here on Substack.
Barb and I will continue to preach to our small and slow-growing choir for as long as we still have eyes to read the Bible, fingers to type on a keyboard, and minds to bring inspiration and clarity to our readers. As today’s Scripture points out, it’s better to finish than start. I interpret that as meaning, “stick it out, and you’ll finish big” instead of just bailing out because the numbers aren’t impressive. Patience and speaking God’s truth is much better in His eyes than teaching lies and being thrilled about having thousand of readers, and that’s what counts from an eternal perspective.
