Like a tree planted by the water
Jeremiah 17:7-8 Trust in the Lord grows from the continuous nourishment and refreshment of His Word
”Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord And whose trust is the Lord. For he will be like a tree planted by the water, That extends its roots by a stream And will not fear when the heat comes; But its leaves will be green, And it will not be anxious in a year of drought Nor cease to yield fruit.“
Jeremiah 17:7-8 NASB1995
Today, God directed me toward a verse about blessing. One very important part of my intercessory prayer is to thank the Lord for the many blessings He has bestowed upon me in my life, because all of those blessings came from Him. It had nothing to do with getting the right job, working hard or anything else that I had control over — all the blessings any of us receive ultimately come from God.
We’re looking at a wonderful verse from the prophet Jeremiah. Trees are mentioned a lot in the Bible. Similar to this verse is Psalm 1:3, where the psalmist said that a person who stays away from ungodly things and instead delights in the Word of God is “like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season And its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers.”
Like the trees in today’s picture, being planted by streams of water gives one an unceasing flow of refreshment and nourishment. Even in the desert, it never ceases to amaze me how plants can thrive near a source of water that doesn’t flow regularly. Being planted by a constant flow of water — the ultimate source of life for a tree — means to have a constant flow of life itself. A tree in such a place grows strong and sturdy, providing consistent fruit as well as shade (and rest) to anyone in need.
To take delight in and meditate frequently on the Word of God is to be like trees planted by streams of water. We are firmly rooted and gain nourishment and refreshment from the living water of Jesus, our ultimate source of life. Like those trees, we can also provide comfort and nourishment to others who are burdened or in need.
Being rooted and grounded in the love of Jesus, we won’t “be anxious in a year of drought” when trials and troubles come! We hope that this daily message from Heaven On Wheels is a steady trickle of the living water that helps to grow your trust in the Lord.
Heaven On Wheels Daily Prayer:
Heavenly Father, the longer I live, the more I realize that your blessings are poured out on those who trust in Your Word and place their faith and hope in You. Continue to help me live by faith and not by sight, making You the focus of my love and the joy of my life. Build in me a childlike trust in You that pleases Your heart of love, Father. In the name of Your Son and my Savior I pray, AMEN.
Thanks for the message Steve and I truly love this verse
