Saturday, April 16, 2022: Holy Saturday
On Good Friday, Christians reflect on the crucifixion and death of Jesus. On Easter Sunday, we celebrate His resurrection. What should we do on Holy Saturday, the “pause” in Holy Week between the solemnity of Good Friday and the joy of Easter?
The disciples and family of Jesus most likely spent the day waiting in fear of the Romans, and in prayer, as it was the Jewish Shabbat. When God laid out His Commandments to the people of Israel, He created one specifically calling for a day of rest and prayer:
“Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. You have six days each week for your ordinary work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of rest dedicated to the Lord your God. On that day no one in your household may do any work.”
Exodus 20:8-10
Put aside the lawn work, house cleaning, or preparations for an Easter celebration. Go to your quiet place and spend some time in prayer.
