He… wants everyone to repent
2 Peter 3:9 God is being patient and wants everyone to have a chance to repent before judgement.
“The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.”
2 Peter 3:9 NLT
Repentance is on my mind today. I’m writing this on Sunday, February 19, 2023, and we had a rather spirit-filled service today at our church. Now, my wife and I are still somewhat skeptical of certain things we have heard of happening at the Asbury University and other revivals that are springing up this month, and revival was the primary topic of today’s message.
As we came to the end of the service and the pastor invited those who felt the need to come to the altar for prayer, a woman on the other side of the church began wailing loudly. Then she turned and started pointing at people in the congregation, uttering two long sentences in an unknown language. Then, silence…
Barb and I were both somewhat flabbergasted, as we’d never experienced something like this before. We both felt strongly that the Lord was calling for repentance through her, and Barb felt a sense of fear of the Lord. I was personally moved to go to the altar and get down on my knees to pray. We’re hoping that someone in the congregation was able to interpret her message, as that will provide all of us with — as Paul said in 1 Corinthians 14:5 — strengthening:
“I wish you could all speak in tongues, but even more I wish you could all prophesy. For prophecy is greater than speaking in tongues, unless someone interprets what you are saying so that the whole church will be strengthened.”
1 Corinthians 14:5 NLT
The coming of judgement may not happen soon, although the current state of the world seems to indicate that it might be near. Whenever it happens, the Lord wants to give as many people as possible to turn to Him, repent of their sins, and ask for forgiveness. Perhaps the growing revivals this month are God’s way of saying “Prepare!”
Heaven On Wheels Daily Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I praise You for your patience toward my sinful ways and those of the entire world. Please help me see the unsaved through Your loving eyes, and give me a burning desire to spread Your gospel of grace to a lost and suffering world. I know Jesus is coming back, and I pray that as many people as possible may come to faith in You while they still can. I ask this in Your holy name, AMEN.
I wasn’t there I went on Saturday! My daughter Chrystal was there Sunday and brought up the same thing. Though she was new to hearing the wailing and tongues she did feel the overwhelming push from God to her on her knees and pray
