We’re human, which means we fall well short of God’s ideal. Starting with Adam, Eve, and their sons Cain and Abel, humanity has been filled with evil behavior of every shape and kind.
In Paul’s letter to the church in Ephesus, he tried to tell the early Christians what they needed to do to be more Christ-like. In a section of the epistle titled “Living as Children of Light”, Paul instructs the followers of Christ in how they should live, throwing off their former lives, telling the truth, getting rid of anger, working hard instead of stealing, and speaking words of encouragement to others.
One verse really pinpoints how behaviors need to be changed:
“Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior.”
Ephesians 4:31 NLT
Can you imagine how much better our world would be if everyone took this verse to heart each and every day? It would put most politicians and journalists out of business. Discarding bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words and slander goes a long way toward achieving God’s plan for us.
