“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”
John 3:16
The negative “D” word series ends with the most profound word of all: Death. This is a given for every single creature on Earth (with one historical exception). We will all die, sooner or later, in pain or in our sleep, instantly or suffering over many days. So how in the world can I say that we can eliminate death?
All of the previous negative “D” words I wrote about have their roots in our fear of death. Our society tends to ignore this fact of life or pushes it aside, trying to distract us from the reality of corporal death by pushing the next great thing or experience. The enemy also hopes that we don’t think about death, because then we would have to realize that sins and rejection of God have eternal consequences. I know this is a difficult topic, but actually thinking about it makes it far easier to have hope and faith and not be distracted by the temporal.
For those who believe and have their hope in Jesus as our Savior, death is a transition from this life to an eternal life of unimagined beauty and worship in the presence of God. We have a soul that is the essence of our being that makes this transition to Heaven or that same soul chooses to spend eternity outside the presence of God, which is extremely unpleasant to contemplate. Setting aside future events (eschatology or the end of the world - Second Coming, New Heaven/New Jerusalem), the right eternal life for your soul starts right now when you accept Jesus as the Risen Savior and repent of your sins. When Nicodemus first heard the words that Jesus spoke in John 3:16, he had to be in awe. His Grace is boundless!
My next series will explore the Armor of God, as written in Ephesians 6 by the Apostle Paul.
