In Romans 12:3, the Apostle Paul tried to teach the early Christians of Rome that they should live in humility as Jesus did:
Because of the privilege and authority God has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us.
Romans 12:3 NLT
This plea to not think we are better than we really are has applicability in much more than just our lives as Christians! I chose Romans 12:3 as today’s verse specifically because of a website project I’m working on for a friend. I reassured him that the project would be a “piece of cake” and done quickly…
As you’d expect, things went downhill very fast! Now, about five hours after I started the project, I’m back at square one again. In our human lives, as well as our religious lives, we should all strive for humility. Never think of yourself as better than you really are! Don’t oversell your abilities to others, because that’s when pride in your skills can come back to haunt you.
Stay humble!
