“If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall.”
1 Corinthians 10:12 NLT
Today’s verse from 1 Corinthians is a reminder for us not to think we’re doing better at resisting temptation than we actually are. Paul was writing to the Christians in Corinth, a place described in the New Testament as being particularly smitten with adultery, sexual immorality, and idol worship
To resist the constant temptation from the world, Paul wanted the Corinthians to know that they were vulnerable — especially when they believed they were being strong.
When you’re feeling particularly smug about being a “good person”, that’s the time to stay on guard for the unexpected temptation that can trip you up and cause you to fall.
