“In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation.”
1 Peter 5:10 NLT
We all suffer in this life.
Many times the suffering is emotional, brought on by depression, anxiety, grief, stress, and loneliness. We can suffer physically, through aging, disease, and abuse. When we’re in the midst of the worst suffering, it feels like nobody cares and that there’s no end in sight.
That’s where our faith in Jesus brings hope. In this beautiful passage at the end of his epistle to early Christians scattered throughout what is now Turkey, Peter reminds us that we are called to share in God’s eternal glory and that He uses suffering to purify and perfect us.
Suffering is never pleasant, but the end result is glorious.
