A strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls
Hebrews 6:18-19 Hope is the anchor that keeps us from drifting even when we’re battered by storms of adversity and self-doubt.
“So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us. This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary.”
Hebrews 6:18-19 NLT
Hope.
Of all the blessings we have received from God, hope is one of the greatest. As Christians, we know that we have been saved by the blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and that after this earthly life, we will spend eternity in his presence.
When I was in my desert years of unbelief, I felt hopeless. Even as a young man, the thought of dying terrified me. Coming back to Christ brought a flood of hope into my life, which refreshes and sustains me as I move ever closer to my last day of this life.
In today’s verses, the writer reinforces the promise and oath that God made to mankind by pointing out the obvious fact that most of us are blind to — God cannot lie! We have His written Word — all 783,137 words to be exact (NKJV) — of His promises and oaths to us, of what He is giving those of us who believe in Him and who follow His commandments.
We indeed have great confidence as we hold to the hope of the resurrection and the glory to come, and it is the anchor that keeps us from drifting even when we’re battered by storms of adversity and self-doubt.
In the days of tabernacle and temple, only a chosen few could pass through the curtain into the sanctuary where God existed. Thanks to Jesus paying the penalty for our sin on the cross, we can all become children of God through faith alone in Christ alone and pass unhindered into God’s inner sanctuary.
Heaven On Wheels Daily Prayer:
Father in Heaven, thank You for the reassurances of our security in Christ which You have poured out upon us in abundance, confirmed in Your holy Word by many promises. Thank You for Jesus, who sacrificed Himself willingly on the cross so that I would gain eternal access into Your holy presence. I bless Your holy name, in Jesus’ name, AMEN
