A Blossom of God’s Wisdom
Romans 8:28 Did you ever stop to think that you’re causing yourself a lot of stress because you aren’t doing what God planned for you to do?

“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”
Romans 8:28 NLT
Paul’s epistle to the Romans reminds me of a huge field full of wildflowers. Wherever you look, there’s a bright, beautiful blossom of praise that can be enjoyed by itself, but it’s the overall grouping of those blossoms — the entire epistle — that makes you stop and take notice in the first place.
Today’s bright flower is Romans 8:28, and when I started to look closely at it, I realized that it had a lot of meaning for me personally. During my desert years as a non-believer, I had incredible stress in my life that manifested itself in constant and severe anxiety. At the time, I put a lot of the blame on everybody else — not me! It was always what others were or weren’t doing that was causing me problems.
As I returned to God and began to study His Word, it became increasingly obvious to me that many of my problems in those days could have been resolved if only I had been a believer! Of course I can’t go back in time and change my entire life, but in light of this verse, had I loved God always and asked Him for His direction, I would have discerned what His purpose was for me.
This promise is for those who love God, and I truly feel that since He brought Barb and I back to Him, we’ve both finally realized our purpose in life. It wasn’t to be the smartest engineer or project manager; it was to praise Him and to let Him manage our lives in all ways at all times. It is to use our God-given skills to bring His Word to others, and hopefully be able to bring lost souls to Him.
We have been called according to His purpose, and although we may face the sufferings of this present time (Romans 8:18), even those sufferings will work together for our good and His good.
I still feel stress from time to time, but knowing that everything will “work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them” eases that burden.
Heaven On Wheels Daily Prayer:
Thank You, God, for calling us according to Your purpose. Thank You for Your Word, which is an endless field of beautiful blossoms of wisdom that we can enjoy and study to know You better. Thank You for easing our burdens by making everything work together for our good. May my thanks and praise be acceptable to You, AMEN.
